Historically accurate reenactment of the Old West
The Kit Carson Mountain Men is organized for educational and charitable purposes by providing educational opportunities to its members and the public about life, times and historical events of the North American Mountain Men of the 1800's. We accomplish this by research and involvement of its members in historically accurate re-enactments, encampments, seminars and demonstrations to which the public is invited. We encourage this heritage by providing scholarships to high school graduate students interested in early American history and related fields of study. We are a non-profit organization
We were established in 1936 in Jackson, California where we are still located. The City of Jackson granted us a clubhouse in 1940 where we now have monthly meetings and plan our next outings. We have had many recognizable names in the club such as John Wayne, Ken Curtis, Jimmy Durante, Ronald Regan and others. We are seeking new members who share the passion and interest we have of the Old West such as Wagon Trains , rendezvous, traditional muzzle loaders, blacksmithing, primitive camping and related events.
After the COVID-19 virus restrictions of 2020, we are not back to our monthly in-person meetings as well as having monthly club shoots.
Our annual club Christmas Party was held the first week of December 2019 at which time we not only had a great pot luck dinner, but elected officers for 2020. See image for the 2020 officers. Seated l to r. John Queirolo, James Phillips, Art Stonebraker, Aubrey Campbell . Standing l to r , Tim Taylor, Randy Martin.
BAD NEWS is that several events that we participate in were and have been cancelled for 2020. We cancelled our Wagon train in April , The Amador County Fair in July is on hold and probably cancelled, We are unsure as of this writing if we will be selling Fireworks in Plymouth in July. To be confirmed soon. Most other rendezvous in the northwest have been cancelled or postponed,
Each year, the club engraves a permanent plaque hung in the clubhouse the recognizes effort by a member on behalf of the club. For 2019, and for 2020, two members were permanently honored on the ABOVE AND BEYOND plaque for outstanding service and effort. Randy Martin and Aubrey Campbell were both awarded the honor by President Art Stonebraker.
Randy attended nearly every event and usually hauled his authentic 1800's wagon for show and tell or set up his tipi and full camp. He also was Booshway for the Fireworks Sales in July and is constantly involved in club activities.
Aubrey is the Chief Scout ( Secretary for the club) and was recognized for his record keeping as well at setting up the clubs first website and facebook page.
Congratulations to both mountain me
